To increase the pace of transformation in the financial services sector and the broader economy, ABSIP resolved, as part of its Vision 2020, to contribute to the development and mentoring of Students and the Youth. The objective is to increase the pipeline of young Black professionals for the financial services sector and the broader South African economy. To achieve this objective ABSIP established a Bursary Fund in 2012 to help in promoting education through funding and supporting disadvantaged Black students who wish to study towards a degree in the Finance, Economic and Management Sciences faculties. The key criteria for eligibility are that students must demonstrate academic excellence, be financially needy and have a passion to pursue a career in the financial services sector or the broader economy. Since its inception, the ABSIP Bursary Fund has provided financial support to the value of R3,5 million to over 50 students to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies at universities in South Africa, United States of America and Germany.
